We realise that it is not always easy for pupils to leave a school they have attended for years and move to a much bigger school which is new to them. However, this is an aspect of our work to which we have paid a great deal of attention. Our school has a happy and close relationship with our primary schools and we cooperate closely to ensure that the pupils settle with us as quickly as possible.

The school is served by five feeder schools; Bodringallt, Bronllwyn, Llwyncelyn, Llyn y Forwyn and Ynyswen. Pupils from Tonyrefail also attend.

Our school has developed a programme specifically designed to help your son / daughter move from school to school:

  • The senior staff meet the new parents twice; once at the junior school and once here in Cwm Rhondda

  • Year 6 pupils will spend a day with us school during the summer term when they will meet their Form Tutor and experience a variety of lessons

  • During the first weeks of the Autumn term a Summer Course will be organised for the new pupils so that they can get to know each other in an informal setting

  • Cluster group meetings and meetings of the Headteachers take place on a regular basis and there is also good liaison between subject departments and the Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator

  • There is also a considerable flow of information between the schools, in our efforts to establish a continuous education for your child

  • Our Transition Cluster worker (Ms Helen Miller) works within our cluster of schools to ensure an effective and smooth transition process for all pupils – Ms Miller spends the Terms 2 and 3 of Year 6 working with pupils in the cluster junior schools then Term 1 of Year 7 helping pupils to settle at Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhondda

  • Every effort is made to respond quickly to pupils individual needs and therefore ensure that new pupils settle quickly and happily into their new environment.

We very much look forward to welcoming you to Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhondda.
