It was a pleasure to welcome Michael Foale, world renowned astronaut, to Y Cymer on Friday 3.3.17, as part of the Mission Discovery Project. All pupils from across the cluster were captivated by his presentation. Thank you for such a wonderful opportunity and for the inspiration!

Following our recent successful school campaign to raise funds for the charity ‘Hafal’ our Sixth Form students were invited to the official opening of the Mental Health Rehabilitation Center at Gellinudd. Developed by ‘Hafal’, the principal charity in Wales for people recovering from serious mental illness and their carers. Gellinudd Recovery Centre has received funding from the National Lottery and the Welsh Government, and fulfills a long-held ambition of ‘Hafal’ Members for a progressive in-patient service.

We extend warm congratulations to Yr 10 pupil, Iestyn Williams, who has recently won the Welsh Under 18s Indoor Bowls Championships ,the youngest ever competitor to do so . It was well deserved as he beat 4 internationals on the way to being named Welsh champion. Ardderchog Iestyn!

As part of the Iris prize film festival our year 13 Media students created a short film about the rights and treatment of LGBT+ pupils. ‘Alex’ has been chosen to be shown in the final round of the Iris Community and Education Short Film Awards 2017. Congratulations to everyone that has contributed towards the film – in front and behind the camera.

Congratulations to our Swimming Team who recently swam in the National Urdd Swimming Gala. Every individual swimmer qualified for the finals with Tyler Collins and the Year 7 & 8 Mixed relay team {Logan Clement, Tyler Collins, Seren Wood Jones, Seren Haf Jones] winning Silver medals in their races. Excellent swimming by all!

Year 12 students receive road safety training provided by South Wales Police to include a driving simulation.

Sixth form students were invited to participate in the live production of S4C’s ‘Hacio’n Holi’ held at the National Assembly for Wales.
