On the same day as we take to the Polling Station to cast our votes in the General Election, students and staff have voted for our new Head Prefects following today’s hustings. The students in the running to be elected are:

Many congratulations to Emily Hoare of 7R on her recent wins at the National ‘Swim Wales’ Championships held recently. Emily, who has been swimming since the age of seven won three of her races. Well done Emily!

It was with great pleasure that we were able to welcome Mr Tim Penn to the MFL department last week and introduce him to some of our Year 9 pupils. Mr Penn is the founder of ‘Signature Leather’, a company which deals with customers worldwide, and he spoke very powerfully about the advantages of developing communication skills in MFL within the world of work. In an amusing and thought provoking manner, he explained that MFL and Business go hand in hand and that is was his ability to communicate in French and German that enabled him to break into new markets and establish strong business relationships across the world.

Congratulations to our rugby First XV on their victory against Radyr Comprehensive School during the Blues Regional Schools Champions of Champions cup final at Cardiff Arms Park. The boys won the game 24-17 to clinch the trophy and maintain their 100% unbeaten record in every league match this year. Well done boys and good luck for the future!

Congratulations to Carwyn Davies a Year 11 pupil, on his show jumping performance at Broomes a fortnight ago, with his horse Black Arrow! Carwyn took part in 6 competitions where he jumped heights ranging from 3 ft to 1.05m. The following week, Carwyn participated in the Welsh Masters where he came 14th out of 105 competitors.

Carwyn has qualified for the British championships an will compete in August.

The Year 8 Rugby Squad travelled to the southern regions of France on their recent Rugby Tour during the Easter Holidays. The tour consisted of two competitive games against very strong opposition and an opportunity for pupils to taste a variety of culture in the cities of Toulouse and Narbonne.

During the Easter holidays a group of Year 8 and 9 students visited Austria on a skiing holiday. During the week the students had the opportunity to ski some of the best slopes in Austria - including Zauchansee, Schladming and Planai. Even though only a quarter of the students had skied previously, by the end of the week most of them were confident enough to tackle the red slopes - Zen Bevan even completed the famous World Champions Run! All pupils were a credit to the school and their families and we are excitedly planning the next trip! Thanks also to Miss Sara Wheldon for organising the trip!
