The class of 2015 at Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhondda has gained the best set of A-Level results in the school’s 27 year history. Students at the school are celebrating the 100% success rate at A-Level, with 80% of all grades attained amongst the top A*- C grades.

Amongst this year’s top performers are Chelsie Humphreys who was awarded 1A*, 1 A and 2 B grades and is set to study Physiotherapy at Cardiff University, Megan Rees who gained an impressive 2 A* grades and 1 B and will study English at Swansea University, Ebony Bourne and Daniel Davies who each were awarded 1A*, 2 B and 1 C grades and Dewi Pruett who achieved 1 A, 2 B’s and 1 C grade. Ebony is set to study at University of South Wales, Daniel will commence his apprenticeship with GE in September and Dewi will be heading to Swansea to study Mathematics.

53 students also studied the Welsh Baccalaureate Advanced Diploma, securing a 100% pass rate with 4 pupils achieving an A* grade.

AS students also reaped the rewards of their hard work, as they were awarded some of the best results seen in the school’s history. Amongst this year’s top performers are Cerys Evans, Lowri Hurley, Megan Husband, Elis James, Kian John, Aaron Matthews, Elinor Rees, Cari Evans, Courtney Adams Kate MacGregor, Dafydd Carter and Chloe Wilson who were awarded an impressive 31 A*-B grades between them.

For Head, Rhian Morgan Ellis, these results crown the continuous progress and years of dedication, commitment and diligence on behalf of students , parents and staff at Cymer. “I am delighted that our students, once again, have fulfilled their potential. All students who have chosen to continue their studies within further education have gained their place at University. These results are testament to the continued significant improvement in standards at Cymer since 2011 and I sincerely hope that they will stand all our students in good stead as they continue their learning journey."

"On behalf of the Board of Governors, Chair Mr John Bryant said he was “delighted with this year's A level and AS examination results. This school has a vibrant Sixth Form and many of its members will have already experienced considerable success in sporting arenas and on the stage. Today's results are the final pieces of the jigsaw. It is just reward for their hard work and that of a dedicated and talented staff. For the second time this week, Cymer pupils have had an opportunity to meet with HRH, this time at the Llangollen International Eisteddfod.Our school choir travelled to Llangollen to compete in this prestigious event and a truly memorable time was had by all. Undoubtedly, HRH Prince Charles also enjoyed the opportunity to meet the young people of the Rhondda for a second time!

Year 10 student Ceri James Williams' Work Experience Week has involved a once in a lifetime experience! Ceri, who is working at local company 'Too Good To Waste' met His Royal Highness Prince Charles during his tour of the South Wales Valleys.

We were very pleased to welcome back our Yr 6 pupils to Y Cymer. This visit, one of many arranged as part of our extensive transition programme, was an opportunity for the pupils to meet new friends and to enjoy a taste of a typical school day at Y Cymer. We look forward to welcoming them back soon as they take part in our Master Classes!

We were very pleased to welcome some of Yr 6 to school this week to participate in a Maths workshop. This was an opportunity for them to share their skills with members of the Maths Department.

Our new Head and Deputy Head Prefects were introduced during two special assemblies this week. We extend our congratulations and best wishes to them as they commence their responsibilities.
