We were very pleased to welcome some of our past pupils to school on Thursday, 17th of December for an awards ceremony, recognising their achievements whilst pupils at Y Cymer. Well done to you all and continued success to you on your chosen paths!

A special coffee morning was held on Thursday 17th December to celebrate the progress and efforts of all students involved in our transition support programme, led by Miss Hannah Rowlands. Miss Rowlands began working with the students when they were in Year 6 and she has since spent a year with them, focusing on developing skills. The children received certificates charting their progress and an award in recognition of their hard work. Many thanks to the group's supportive families and to Miss Rowlands for co-ordinating such a successful venture. Miss Rowlands will be returning to the primary in January to begin working with the new target group. Diolch yn fawr Miss Rowlands!

Year 8 students enjoyed a very informative day last week as part of the Authority’s World of Work programme. A number of representatives from various fields within the industry sector held sessions with the students and our thanks go to all the representatives for giving of their time to hold such worthwhile and informative sessions.

Year 12 student participated in a road safety initiative delivered by the South Wales Police. The aim of the initiative is to educate young people of the potential dangers associated with driving in order to reduce the number of accidents and youth fatalities. During the delivery of the initiative students attended an array of relevant road safety workshops to include the highlight of the day for many students - undertaking driving instruction under the guidance of qualified driving instructors.

Some of our Yr 13 students have been working hard during recent months on the production of an anti-bullying short film, in conjunction with Equiversal. A premiere of the film was held in school this week and our thanks go to all at Equiversal for such an excellent opportunity . A link to the film will be available on the website soon!

The Park and Theatre was once again full with to the brim with the best of Rhondda talent as students from Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhondda took to the stage for our annual school production, which was, this year, High School Musical. There were some truly memorable performances and our sincere thanks go to all staff and students involved for their commitment and hard work. Thanks also to the parents and staff at the Park and Dare for their support. More pictures will be added soon!

Here are some of our Yr 9 and 10 pupils on their way to a prestigious launch at Holland House in Cardiff, where they will be officially announced as members of the 2015-16 Dewar Shield Rhondda Rugby squad. Well done boys!
