Our Estyn Inspection Report
Following our school’s recent Estyn inspection 24-28 March, the report has been published and is now available on Estyn’s website. A sincere thank you to all – pupils, staff, parents, and governors, for ensuring an inspection and report that acknowledges the significant progress made by the school during the last three years.
We are very pleased with the report which contains so many aspects to be celebrated. This progress has come about as a result of the hard work and the contribution of all the stakeholders of the school’s community, and I thank you sincerely for your co-operation and support in this.
This is by no means the end of our journey. We shall with the continued support and co-operation of all, which is such a strong characteristic of the Cymer community; the diligence and ability of our pupils; and the commitment and dedication of our talented staff, ensure continued progress towards our goal of being the best in Wales.
Following a Course!
Year 10 pupils enjoyed following the river Ogwr lately as part of their Geography field work, despite the rain. Nothing stops Cymer pupils!
Eisteddfod yr Urdd 2014
Success, success, success....
Cymer once again achieved prolific standards in the Urdd National Eisteddfod in Bala during the Whitsun holidays. Seren Hâf Macmillan secured first prize for oral recitation, and the girls choir Yr 7,8,9, secured second prize. There was also success for year 8 pupils in the Arts and Crafts competition, with Jennifer Page gaining first place and Cerys Swain in second place. Well done girls!
As well as such success, the pupils also shared the best traditions of Cwm Rhondda with local people in Betws y Coed where they had accommodation.
A heartfelt thanks to staff and pupils for giving of their time and talents.
Look out Caerffili 2015!
Congratulations to Stephanie Keirle on her victory in Shot Put in the County Athletics Competition (Juniors - Year 8 & 9). Steph will now represent the County in the Welsh Regional competition Saturday, 5th July at Leckwith. Best of luck Steph!
Huge congratulations to Josh Phillips of Year 7 for receiving a silver medal in a recent British open Karate championship. Out of over 700 competitors of all ages, Josh received a silver medal for his skills in Tang Soo Do. Well done!
Welsh Caps for Cymer Students
Congratulations to Thomas Sheppard and Shane Lewis Hughes on their inclusion in the Wales U16 squad for the 2013/14 season. Both boys were capped at national level whilst representing Wales v England on the 27th April 2014 at Neath RFC. Both boys have reached the pinnacle of their chosen sport at an early age through desire and commitment to succeed. We are certainly privileged as a school to boast two Welsh internationals during the 2013/14 season.
Tribute must also be payed to Cameron Lewis who also represented Wales in the U16 international rugby festival held at Wellington College, England during the Easter holidays 2014. A very talented player we are confident will achieve further recognition in the future.
