Pupils and staff at Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhondda are celebrating once again this year after securing the best set of GCSE results ever achieved at the school. These results continue the upward trend in performance at GCSE level during the past four years.

Once again, A Level and AS students at Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhondda have reaped the rewards of all their hard work after achieving more excellent grades this year. This year’s Year 13 students have gained the best set of results in the school’s history, with 98.1% of students achieving at least 2 A*-E grades or equivalent.

Congratulations to Molly Rowlands of Year 7 who represented the school in this year's prestigious RCT Attend and Achieve awards.

Cymer pupils believe in spreading their wings and interacting with all and therefore are enjoying a visit to New York and Washington! After leaving Washington and politics they'll be saying hello to Broadway. Watch this space for more info.

On Tuesday the 1st of July, Rhys Bebb from ‘Keep Wales Tidy’ visited the school to meet with the eco council. Aftera long discussion about their work and a journey around the school to see some of the changes that they have made in action, he decided that the school fully deserved to be awarded the Green Flag. The award shows that the eco council have been busy assessing the school’s environment, setting targets for improvement and getting to work implementing these targets effectively. Huge congratulations to Mrs Maxwell-Lyte and all the members of the council on their achievement!

After 9 years of training and teaching with The Welsh Kempo Association, Year 12 pupil Ruth Davies was graded a 2nd Dan Black belt in Kempo Jujitsu. Ruth also trains and teaches a traditional Filipino Weapons style martial art, Dacayana eskrima, and is currently a 1st dan Black belt and Apprentice Coach and is working towards her grading for her 2nd Dan in this style also. The school are very proud of Ruth and wish her continued success. Well done Ruth!

Local charity 'Rhondda Breast Friends' were very grateful of the donation given by Year 11 Cymer students following a bake sale to raise funds for local causes.
