Year 8 pupils enjoyed a special day organised by the Modern Foreign Languages Department on Thursday 26th of September. The activities were organised to celebrate European Day and the pupils had the opportunity to take part in a variety of activities focused on European cultures and languages.

It’s been a busy week in school as the annual elections for the School Council were held.  On Thursday 26th of September it was the turn of our youngest pupils to try and secure the votes.   Good luck to all candidates – we look forward to announcing our new representatives next week

Following last year’s success in winning the league, Cymer’s first XV rugby team got their 2013/14 season under way with a 12-9 win at Whitchurch High School on Saturday.

Cei Evans, a Year 8 pupil, began rollerblading two years ago, but already dreams of pursuing a professional career in the field. He recently took part in a prestigious event, held at the O2 arena, and hosted by Tom Daley. He has already achieved great success in the field and we are very proud of his achievements. Ardderchog Cei!

We are very pleased to report that our new Year 7 pupils are settling in well to school life at Y Cymer. They have enjoyed a trip to the cinema and bowling as part of the annual induction programme held at school and are busy making new friends and meeting their new teachers. As they start the next chapter of their education, we wish them continued success!

On Saturday September 7th, Year 8 pupil Seren Farrup attended an important presentation held at Cardiff City Stadium. Talented mid-fielder Seren has recently secured a place at the South Wales Girls' Football Performance Centre, and pictured with Seren is Damien Flynn, the centre's manager. Many congratulations to you Seren!

Pupils and staff at Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhondda are celebrating the best ever set of GCSE results in the school’s history. As the school celebrates 25 years since opening in 1988, we also celebrate an incredible pass rate of 99% 5 A*-C grades at GCSE level – the best ever pass rate the school has achieved, and a whopping 28% up on last year’s Welsh average.
