We were very pleased to hear of Keenan Napper's recent wins at two 'Splash & Dash' events. We wish the talented swimmer continued success!

Cymer pupils have once again returned from this year's National Urdd Eisteddfod with yet another haul of medals! 70 pupils and their families travelled to Pembrokeshire during Whitsun week to compete in 18 competitions. Our warmest congratulations to every pupil who competed and represented our school and valley.

We had the opportunity to bid farewell to our oldest students on Friday 24th May. We thank them for their many varied and valued contributions to school life during the past seven years and, as they begin the next chapter in their lives, we wish them the very best for the future.

A special assembly was held last week to celebrate five years of contributions by our Year 11 students to life at Ysgol y Cymer.

Our warmest congratulations are extended to 7R pupil Niamh Jones on her fantastic success at this year's Welsh Schools Cycling Championships. Niamh, who is a member of both Newport Olympic and Bike Doctor Cycling Clubs, was awarded the silver medal after completing a 10 mile cycle. Niamh trains 5 times a week and can often cycle 50 miles at a time.

This is a fantastic achievement. We are very proud of you Niamh!

One student’s commitment and hard work towards his studies has been recognised nationally. Year 12 student Aaron Fowler has secured one of only four highly sought-after places after gaining a Nuffield Science Placement Bursary.

We welcomed our Year 6 pupils to Y Cymer on Saturday April 20th. The pupils enjoyed taking part in a variety of activities as well as making new friends and meeting some of the teachers at Y Cymer. This event remains an important part of our transition calendar and we very much hope the pupils enjoyed! We look forward to welcoming you all back soon!
