We all had fun in our annual Sports day which was held on Wednesday 11th July at Newport Athletics Stadium. We were fortunate enough that the sun did shine and we also had the opportunity to hold the Olympic torch.

On Wednesday 20th of June, 31 students who are studying Geography in Year 10 undertook fieldwork which included following the Ogmore river. An enjoyable day studying in the sun was had by all!

All Year 6 pupils spent a very busy and fun-packed day with us at Y Cymer on Saturday 25th of June. The pupils took part in a variety of activities, including theatrical make-up sessions, circus and drama skills and Graffiti workshops.

Warmest congratulations are extended to Year 7 pupil, Chloe Wilshire, on winning a Rhondda Biathlon competition during the Whitsun holidays. Chloe pipped 45 other competitors to the post whilst swimming and then running. What a fantastic achievement!

A group of Year 10 boys had great fun during a recent Paint Balling event, organised as a reward for their hard work whilst undertaking projects to improve the school site.

Following months of preparations, over 80 pupils, parents and staff, travelled to this year's Urdd Eisteddfod, which was held in the Caernarfon area. The pupils had secured their places in a fantastic and varied 19 competitions, following their success at the County Eisteddfod.

This year’s Urdd Eisteddfod was a very busy one for one talented Year 9 pupil. Nia Rees returned back to the Rhondda with 6 gold medals and 3 bronze medals after representing Y Cymer, Adran Bro Tâf and Adran y Cwm. She reached the national stage in a grand total of fifeen competitions. What an achievement!
