Warmest congratulations to all pupils who represented Y Cymer at the National Urdd Eisteddfod, held in Swansea last week. The standard was, as we have come to expect from Cymer pupils, once again exceptionally high.

Following a very busy and exciting period for Year 11 pupil Declan Dalley, which has included signing a three year contract with Manchester United, winning his Welsh under 18 cap, and sitting his GCSE examinations, another deserving accolade was awarded to him on Saturday night at Ystrad Sports Centre.

The talented Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhondda Choir was very pleased to accept an invitation to perform in an annual Gala Concert organised by The Rhondda Fach Music Partnership on Friday 8th of May at the Rhondda Fach Sports Centre.

Many congratulations to our Year 7 Rugby Team on their recent success at this year's Rhondda Rugby 7 a side tournament. They secured first place, only conceding 10 points during the whole tournament.

Many congratulations to Year 7 pupil, Joseph Kelland from Gelli, on securing first and second place in the Tang Soo Do Karate World Championship, held in Cardiff recently. Joesph held his own against competitors from as far a field as Japan and America. What a fantastic achievement!

On behalf of the school and our local community, many thanks to a group of our Sixth Form students for giving of their time to help our Community Support Officer, PC Dai Hughes, as he and others members of the community collected litter from the streets of Cymmer recently.

During the Easter holidays, Cymer's Year 10 victorious Rugby Team had the opportunity to tour the new Cardiff City and Cardiff Blues stadium. The boys enjoyed a tour of the grounds and facilities in recognition of their victory in this year's Welsh Schools' Cup.
