Congratulations to Year 12 student Garwyn Shortman, the current Casting Junior Welsh Record Holder, on breaking his own record during the summer holidays, with a cast of 208.95m. Llongyfarchiadau mawr Garwyn!

Staff, pupils and parents at Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhondda are celebrating once again this year with the school's best ever GCSE results. 75% of pupils achieved 5 A*-C grades and every single pupil gained at least one qualification. In addition to 3 out of 4 pupils achieving 5 A*-C grades, the school is also proud of the fact that a third of pupils gained at least 10 A*-C grades.

Once again, A Level and AS students at Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhondda have reaped the rewards of all their hard work after notching up more successful grades this year.

Our annual Sports' Day was held this year at Newport Athletics Stadium. Once again, a wealth of talent and healthy competition was on display!

The Welsh Department at Y Cymer hosted its annual transition funday last weekend, welcoming all our Year 6 pupils to the school for a day full of activities, such as drama and art workshops. These were followed by a book quiz and dramatic presentation, based on our cluster novel.

A group of Year 8 boys received an invitation to present at a special ceremony held to celebrate the success of the PUPIL scheme, a scheme which aims to help pupils to understand problems in their community. All schools from Rhondda Cynon Taf were represented at the event which was held at the Rhondda Fach Sports Centre recently.

A group of lucky boys were invited to take part in a musical workshop recently. The workshop was held by three members of the world famous choir ‘Only Men Aloud', and its aim, as well as proving that singing is fun, was to promote their new venture, a boys' ‘Only Boys Aloud' choir.
