Congratulations to Year 10 pupil Megan Lewis on her recent achievements in the field of scuba-diving. Megan is an active member of Llantrisant Sub Aqua Club and The Sub Aqua Association.

A group of lucky students took part in a special project recently. Co-ordinated by our Youth Worker, Miss Sarah Stone, the pupils worked alongside artists to re-create paintings of famous Welsh icons.

Our annual Study Skills workshop, held by London based company Learning Performance was held for all Year 7 pupils this week. A similar seminar was also held for a group of Year 11 students, in preparation for their final GCSE year. The pupils were introduced to a host of useful learning tools which will be of great benefit to them in their studies. A parents' workshop was also held in order for parents to support their children's learning at home.

Our new Year 7 pupils returned full of excitement from the annual summer course, held at Lampeter University. As well as visiting Heatherton Park, L2 Leisure Centre in Swansea, and Aberystwyth, the pupils enjoyed the opportunity to make new friendships and spend time with their tutors. A great time was had by all!

Warmest congratulations are extended to Year 10 pupil, Kelsey Johns, on being nominated for the title 'Rhondda's Young Sports Personality 2012' during an awards ceremony on Saturday 19th May.

Congratulations to talented athlete Cole Swannack on breaking his sixth record of the season, this time at the Junior Welsh Championships, held in Cardiff. Cole claimed top spot in the 800m race with a fantastic time of 2.21 minutes, and clinched second prize in the Javelin. Yet another outstanding result Cole!

Staff and pupils at y Cymer wish to welcome all our new Year 7 pupils to the school.
