Duke of Edinburgh Success
Warmest congratulations to 4 of our Sixth Form students on their recent success in the Duke of Edinburgh Challenge. Ross Farrup, Sam Kelland, Daniel Rees and James Davies have all secured the Bronze award after a variety of testing challenges including a six hour hike! Congratulations to the 4, and the very best of luck as you aim for the Gold award!
Yet another warm Cymer welcome was extended to our local ballroom dancers this week as we held our Christmas Tea Dance. We would like to thank all who came for their company and for teaching some of our pupils a few moves on the dancefloor!
Our warmest congratulations and sincere thanks to the cast and crew of Godspell 2011. Once again, the pupils' talents and profesionalism were first class and the audiences at the Parc and Dare Theatre were treated to a feast of the very best young talent around. Llongyfarchiadau a diolch yn fawr i bob un ohonoch.
Warmest congratulations to some of our talented swimmers who competed at the Urdd Swimming Gala recently. The following won their races and will now represent the county at the National Urdd Gala to be held in the new year.
Religious Education Trip
A group of Sixth Form students currently studying R.E A.Level travelled to Trinity Saint David University in Lampeter recently, where they attended a lecture and discussion group. The visit was also a valuable insight into University life!
Welsh Champions - for the Sixth Time
Warmest congratulations to the public speaking team of Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhondda on yet another outstanding achievement. The school’s record in this important Welsh medium competition is an illustrious one – six times winners in the past decade, as well as reaching the British final last year in the English medium competition.
We have many multi-talented pupils at Y Cymer, and Year 7 pupil Isobel Evans is no exception! This week we are celebrating her outstanding achievement at the recent British Surfing Championships, held at Fistral and Towan beaches in Newquay, Cornwall. Isobel secured a fantastic bronze medal in the Under 14 category – no mean feat for an eleven year old!
