Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhondda
Thursday, January 17, 2019

Some of our Year 9 and 10 girls attended a weekend of activities lately in Dol y Gaer. They walked the through a ravine on Friday night, used canoes on Saturday, and went climbing and absailing on Sunday.

Once again, Ysgol y Cymer opened its doors to all Year 6 pupils who will be joining us at Cymer this September as part of our extensive transition programme.

There was a very familiar face to us at Ysgol y Cymer on the front cover of "Golwg" magazine last week. Catrin Faulknall, a Year 12 pupil, and one of our Head Girls was pictured due to her latest role in a short digital film "The Bright Lights".

On 9 June 2010, 11 of our pupils attended a day of fun and skills in the White Water Rafting Centre in Cardiff Bay with our 5x60 officer, Bethan Williams and Miss Rhian Davies of the PE department. Despite the soaking, everyone agreed that the skills learned were invaluable. Thanks for the opportunity.

Sixth Form students helped to collect donations during the Macmillan Rhondda Walk. Pictured are Emily Benwell and Gareth Coombes.

Girl's Choir

Many congratulations to all Cymer pupils who competed in this year's Eisteddfod. The school was represented in a staggering 26 competitions, and won the 2nd prize for the Year 7, 8 and 9 Girls' Choir - after beating 14 other schools to reach the stage, whilst the over 15 Dramatic Presentation saw off the competition from 9 other schools throughout Wales and won 3rd prize.

Year 7 and Year 12 pupils visited Cymmer Infants school this week to hold a Welsh Nursery Rhyme taster session. Year 1 and 2 pupils enjoyed learning about Mrs Wishi Washi and signing along with Cymer pupils.
