After securing their place for the ninth year in succession in the Welsh Public Speaking competition, organised by the Rotary Club of Wales, the Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhondda team, consisting of Year 12 pupils James John Owen, Sarah Louise Jones and Year 9 pupil Daniel Davies, travelled to Crickhowell House in Cardiff Bay for this year's final. 8 schools from South and West Wales had reached the final after competing against a total of 21 schools in the regional heats. The standard was, once agin, extremely high and following an excellent competition and much anticipation, the results were announced. For the fifth year in succession, the Cymer team were declared national winners, with James scooping the prize for Best Proposer, Sarah claiming the Best Opposer, and Daniel, the youngest competitor, clinching a fantastic second place for Best Chairperson. Sarah was also awarded the prestigious title of Best Speaker in the overall competition. Naturally, we are incredibly proud of this fantastic achievement. Head, Ms Rhian Morgan Ellis said "The skills portrayed by our bilingual young people of Cwm Rhondda prove once again that they can compete on a national level and beyond. We're so proud of our pupils achievement, especially when you consider this was a brand new team, and our youngest is only 13. The best in Wales - again. Gwych Cymer!"
