Staff and pupils at Ysgol Gyfun Cymer were delighted to hear of one of our former pupil's fantastic achievement at this year's Commwonwealth Championships, in Delhi. Rhondda girl, Carys Parry, claimed the Silver medal in the Hammer competition. Carys, who has had a very difficult year preparing for this year's Games following back injuries, has been a member of the Rhondda Athletic Club since she was eleven years old. Coached by Bill Kingsbury, Carys has represented Wales and Great Britain in the World and European Championships, and reached sixth place in Melbourne at the last Commonwealth Games. Her family and friends have always followed Carys' career with pride, none more so than Head of Girls PE at Cymer, Mrs Sheena Parry-Davies, Carys' sister.
Her dedication and commitment, as well as holding down a full-time post with Spectacle Theatre Company will undoubtedly inspire the next generation of Cymer athletes. Llongyfarchiadau anferth i ti Carys - we are very proud of you!
